EL VALLES GOLF

Project Description

Real Club de Golf El Prat was established in 1954 in the beach by the Barcelona Airport, just 15 minutes from the city centre. The founders were members of Barcelona Golf Club that had to leave their original site in the city. The first 27 hole design was carried out by the most renowned Spanish architect Javier Arana. In 1987 was enlarged to 36 holes with a Dave Thomas 9 hole design.

The airport expansion in the period 1999-2004 required a new runway to be built in the land were the course was set, affecting a large number of holes. The board decided to select a new site as close to Barcelona city as possible and awarded or team with the Project and Construction management of the whole project (a 65 million euro budget).

A 270 hectare site at Terrassa city, 25 km north of Barcelona, was finally selected for the project, and the golf design was awarded to Greg Norman Golf Course Design Company after a selection process.

Our team was awarded the design and construction supervision of a new Golf Academy (El Valles Golf), a 9 hole par 3 course with a large driving range and clubhouse.

The course was set in a 6 hectare plot, with only bordering trees. An extensive shaping of the project was carried out together with the planting of a large number of pine trees, Ilex and oaks.

It a very well appreciated course, especially between the large quantity of pitch&putt players, as the course has two set of tees for each hole, one of them accomplishing the distance parameters set by ACPP (Catalonia Pitch&Putt Association) and EPPA (European Pitch&Putt Association).
